In an effort to increase trail use, self driving bicycles will be tested on the Katy Trail this month.
The investment comes from an unlikely source, Amazons Twitch video game streaming platform. The goal is to bring gamers outside while allowing them to continue their chosen form of entertainment.
We reached out to Twitch’s head of PR, Whitney T. Freeman and she provided the following statement.
It came to out attention our users lacked the ability to enjoy nature and absorb the necessary amount of vitamin D to keep up with marathon gaming sessions. This service allows users to blend their love with the outdoors while limiting distraction from the serene world around them.
Frequent trail users have mixed emotions on the self driving bicycles addition to the trail citing safety concerns and the omission of lidar technology from their navigation systems. Investors have also voiced skepticism of the popularity of the program given a lack of internet connection available in remote areas of the trail.
The program is set to launch on April 1, 2025. “You would have to be a fool to bet against this programs success”, says Whitney T. Freeman (WTF).
